How to Use Your Intuition to Make a Business Decision

intuitionDecisions, decisions . . . every day as human beings we are asked to make important—and not so important—decisions. As business owners, the amount of decisions double or even triple.

If you want to grow your business, it’s important to make the best decisions possible. There are lots of great techniques for making decisions, but the most important factor in good decision making is your intuition.
..
Using your intuition is by far the most effective way to make a good business decision. It just never steers you wrong. The trick is to be able to hear that intuitive voice over any doubt and fear you’re feeling.
..
It can be pretty challenging sometimes. For some people it’s like trying to hear a songbird (your intuition) over the loud sound of a roaring waterfall (Your doubt and fear). So, how do you do it?

First you learn to recognize what your intuition is. If something feels good emotionally, if you feel pulled toward something, if it seems like the right thing to do, or if it just “feels right,” that’s your intuition.

Inspiration and excitement is also a big clue that your intuition is involved. You simply would not feel excited or inspired about a direction if it wasn’t the right one!

Sometimes the excitement or inspiration fades over time if you put the decision off, but contrary to popular belief, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right decision. Usually what it means is inertia has kicked in, and your doubt/fear/gremlin has stopped you.

How do you know for sure? Here’s how: If you feel inspired and enthused to go in a different direction, and you do it, then you may have found a better option. If you do nothing and stay where you are, that’s a pretty sure sign it’s gremlin-itis.

Usually your intuition is the very first thing that kicks in, before the doubt and fear can take hold. That very first “hit” about something is always the right one.

That’s why the most effective entrepreneurs can make decisions quickly, because they are guided by their intuition. They don’t take a long time to reflect or think things over once they have all the information they need. They listen to what their inner voice is saying and then move forward.

There’s another hurdle to leap though, before your internal compass can truly be effective. Once you learn to recognize it, you must learn to trust it.

In my experience, some business owners hear their intuition, they are simply afraid to trust it. It’s amazing to me how many people will opt for not taking a risk even though their gut is telling them to do it.

There’s only one way to learn to trust it, and that’s to just take the leap of faith and do it. Keep trusting what you think is your inner voice, even when you’re not sure. The more you use it, just like a muscle, the stronger it will get.

Make it a personal principle to always look for your intuitive hit, trust and act on it, and it will continue to get clearer and stronger over time. You’ll also learn the way your particular intuition works, and the way it feels to you.
